AGX Freight Hosts Charity Golf Event
More than 20 companies and 80 golfers joined AGX Freight and TCJAX at the 11th Annual Children’s Safe Passage Charity Golf Tournament at Queen’s Harbour on November 8, 2021. The charity was founded in 2010 by AGX Freight CEO, Mike Williams, and a small group of committed volunteers after the Somer Thompson tragedy in October 2009. The heartbreaking story of Somer, 7 years old at the time of her abduction and murder at the hands of a sexual predator, was the inspiration for creating an organization that would identify and financially support those organizations whose mission is to prevent violence and sexual exploitation of children. For more than a decade, the Monique Burr Foundation for Children, based in Jacksonville, Florida, has been the primary beneficiary of all funds raised through the golf event, through the Somer Sunshine Scholarship. AGX Freight has a been a title sponsor of the event for the last 5 years.
Diena Thompson, Somer’s mother, attended the event and greeted both old and new friends - showing her appreciation for support of the scholarship named for her daughter. Many of the sponsors, including True Transport Insurance, Great American Insurance, Intact Insurance, Hillis Properties and others have been attending the event since it’s inception. The tournament was cancelled last year due to the covid pandemic.
Lisa Diaz, Kathie Dyal and Dixie Moody of The Transportation Club of Jacksonville - joined up with AGX in 2021 to co-host the event. TCJAX was instrumental in recruiting many new sponsors, including Shoreside Logistics - a major event sponsor in 2021. Joining Shoreside was Our Mountain Enterprises, led by Vince Yakubowski.
Longtime volunteers, Russ Dixon, Kim Watson and Becca Moulden provided support to the event, ensuring a first class experience for all attendees.
Team Betts Express won the competition after edging out second place Team Suddath in a tiebreaker.
